G.i.r.l.s. Talk Mentoring Program

G.I.R.L.S. Talk is the vision of a mom who desired for her teenage daughter to have a ‘safe space’ to talk to her peers and others about that awkward time in life called ‘adolescence.’ In G.I.R.L.S. Talk, group members will be able to share feelings, struggles, and similarities and serve as a sounding board for one another while discussing and participating in a wide variety of activities dealing with issues common to all young women.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

In our fast paced society, girls are often forced to grow up too quickly. As they navigate their turbulent adolescent years, girls frequently feel alone in their struggles. Girls in Real-Life Situations (G.I.R.L.S.) is a mentoring program designed to give girls an opportunity to feel empowered, gain self-awareness, develop positive coping skills, improve daily problem-solving skills, feel connected with other girls, and make healthy decisions as they grow.

A typical group serves 10-15 girls and a typical session features a guided conversation/activity led by a trained facilitator. Groups will normally meet 1 – 2 Saturdays a month. Additional program elements may include community field trips, guest speakers, and many other unique components. A note will be sent home in advance to make you aware when such activities are planned.

G.I.R.L.S. Talk also focuses on leadership skills and character traits such as honest, personal accountability, learning to listen to the viewpoints of others, clear communication, critical thinking about life and its choices and sound decision making. Through goal setting, our girls work on reaching tangible goals. These skills are essential to success in school, work and life.
